When I say “smart development” in Clawson, it's really talking about shaping growth in a way that protects what we love about our community while helping prepare for the next generation.
Clawson has always been a close-knit city where people know each other, small businesses want to be here, and our charm makes us unique from surrounding cities. Smart development means preserving that character while making thoughtful choices about how and where we grow.
Here’s what that looks like in actual practice:
Protecting Clawson’s Character
Growth should never come at the cost of losing the small-town feel that makes Clawson special. New projects should respect our neighborhoods, match our scale, and enhance our community.
Backing the New Master Plan
Our Master Plan gives us the framework to guide development. Smart development means using that roadmap to encourage the right kind of: investment, downtown revitalization, updated infrastructure, and housing options that fit Clawson families at different stages of life.
Balancing Growth with Responsibility
Every new development should add value to our community- not strain our services or overwhelm our streets. We need to ensure growth brings tax revenue that supports parks, public safety, and infrastructure improvements.
Maintaining the Services We All Rely On
Smart development will add the critical revenue needed to maintain the city services we all want to continue- whether that’s police and fire protection, road improvements, and/or the quality of our parks and recreation.
Putting Residents First
Clawson’s citizens should always have a voice in shaping how we grow. Our City Council and Planning Commission must use all forms of communication; neighborhood meetings, and open dialogue must be at the center of decisions as we grow thoughtfully for the future.
My vision is clear: growth should serve our community, not the other way around. Your elected officials need to put “Clawson First” so we can ensure future development strengthens our community and preserves our charm!
